Southeastern Day Tour

  • Yala National Park
  • Tissa Lake
  • Mulkirigala Rock Temple
  • Wewrukannala Temple

First to set up Yala. Yala, Sri Lanka`s most popular and second-largest national park, has a long history as a conservation hotspot in the country`s east, dating back to the early twentieth century, when it was first established as a wildlife refuge. The area was designated a national park in 1938 because it was home to a varied array of flora and fauna, including numerous endangered species such as elephants and leopards and a diversity of bird species. The park is separated into five zones, each with its own distinct features and animals. The most popular zones are 1 and 5, which are recognized for their abundance of animals, particularly leopards. Second to visit Tissa Lake. Tissa Lake is a historic tank/reservoir established by Sri Lanka`s former monarchs. From the middle of the lake, the splendor of the man-made lake surrounded by lush vegetation is fascinating. Tissa Lake, built about the third century BC, is a vast artificial reservoir that is now part of the regional network of irrigation channels that support the vegetation in Anuradhapura. The serene surroundings of Sri Lanka`s first capital city, which was previously ruled by the mighty monarchs, can be viewed, and the calmness when taking a boat ride is amazing. The native birds and local flora and fauna can be seen while the inhabitants go about their daily lives. Next, visit Mulkirigala Rock Temple. Tangalle`s Mulkirigala Rock Temple, also referred to as Mulkirigala Raja Maha Viharaya in the local tongue, is a wonderful day trip destination. You must ascend to the top of the temple, which is carved into a 673-foot-tall rock, to see the stunning stupa and the surrounding area. Due to its amazing architectural design, the rock is often referred to as "Little Sigiriya"; it is merely less well-known than the Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Visit the temple, which includes five significant areas—Siyambalamaluwa, Bomaluwa, the Royal Temple Compound, the Upper Temple Compound, and the Lower Temple Compound—to view the different paintings, sculptures, and architectural elements. The temple is known as an important archaeological site. Finally, we visit the Wewrukannala temple. Dikwella, 15 miles east of Matara, is home to one of Sri Lanka`s most beautiful Buddhist temples. The Wewurukannala Vihara temple is dominated by a seated Buddha figure. The temple is divided into three sections, the oldest of which is roughly 250 years old but of little great worth. The following section depicts life-size models of demons and sinners in graphic detail. If you go there, you must view the temple museum. The most noticeable feature is the huge clock visible from the front of the building. The clock`s mechanism is shielded inside a glass cage. At the end of the day, we finish the tour.
